The Open Mind Commonsense project is an attempt to make computers smarter by allowing people all over the world to give computers the millions of pieces of ordinary knowledge that constitute "common sense"—those aspects of the world we understand so well that we take them for granted. This includes things like:

every person is younger than their mother
you can push something with a straight stick
one hundred dollars is a lot to pay for a sandwich
snow is cold and is made of millions of snowflakes
a week is longer than an minute
computers need a source of power to operate
most birds can fly, except for penguins and birds with broken wings

This repository of knowledge will enable researchers to create more intelligent and sociable software, to build human-like robots, and to better understand the structure our own minds.
